Questions and Answers on using TC2000:(Last updated 01-30-2000)

Short List of PCFs:

Q)(nphillips123) Am I correct in assuming that the only way to have a temporary short list of PCFs (quicker intraday updates) is to copy infrequently used PCFs to a word file & then delete the PCFs in TC2000? Is there an easier, quicker method? My updating takes over 1/2 hr. Thanks

A)(cpratsch) The first thing to consider is if you have the little window "When updating include criteria which require data from CD-ROM" activated, and if so, if you need this. This really slows updating down by involving the CD drive. You may have to adjust some PCFs to include just the data and time on your C:drive, not on the CD-ROM, which means the time since your last installation of the last CD-ROM (possibly no PCF should check a time over 2 months). Or, place the entire data on the data you need on the hard-drive from the CD-ROM. It most likely is the CD-ROM that slows things down. It takes me 8 minutes to update all data and PCFs with a 200 Intel chip and no CD-ROM activated. With the CD-ROM (40x)it takes me 15 minutes.

Indicator Tabs:

Q)(JHCallahan) Is there any way to have the parameters set for any indicator show on the chart itself. For example, as I look at an RSI chart, it would help me know that it was a 9,3,simple or a 26,9,exponential -- without having to click on the indicator button on the tool bar (I) and look there.

A)(cpratsch) I click the right mouse button on a tab window and open "Remove Indicator(s)", this shows then all indicator settings.

Bollinger Bands:

Q)(JHCallahan) I have set up my Bollinger Bands with 21 MA and a 2 standard deviation. But the bandwidth shown on the chart that is supposedly based on the two SDs seems unbelievably narrow. I've tried it with both highly volatile stocks and less volatile ones, and neither seem correct. Am I doing something wrong?

A)(JIM_P64) The numerical value to plug in for 1 std. dev. is 10, and 2 std. dev's. is 20. Is that what you have, or have you plugged in a "2" for 2 std. dev's.? Hope this helps. jim

Date on Charts:

Q)(DanielExtreme) I downloaded a couple of times today before the close and then again for my nightly download. On the last two tries, I show the proper download time but all the charts are showing 10/23/98, even though on a few stocks that I know well, the chart is showing the correct picture of where the issue closed today. Any ideas as to why I am getting this split result from my download? Myron

A)(DanielExtreme) Never mind!!!!!(blush, blush) I had the pointer on and it was not showing for some reason and when I clicked it off, all was well. Myron

Zero’s in sort column:

Q)(gneilly) Can anyone help! All of a sudden I am getting zero's in my sort column for "percent price change today-H". This happens in any scan mode.

A)(cpratsch) Any time there is a second (work-) day between today and the last data day, TC2000 dos not show the percent price one day sorting list.We had a holiday on Monday, so there are two days between yesterday market and Friday, and you have the hiccup. Should be OK today again.

Vertical lines on charts:

Q)(utgraduate98) Is it possible to draw vertical lines all the way from the bottom indicator through the price graph?

A)(jdh1344) It is possible to have one vertical line that goes through all the indicators. Click on tools then click on pointer(hard way) or simply press the (.) key (easy way) then click where you want the pointer on the chart. Now you can see precisely where the indicator and the graph coincide. Be careful, you'll note that the price information at the top will be that of the pointer location not the last price on the right unless that's where the pointer is. You'll also note the background for the price information will change from black to blue to alert you that there is a pointer on the chart that is not at the far right position. Otherwise you could be mislead that the numbers you see are current. To remove the pointer press the . key again or uncheck pointer in the tool drop-down.

Industry group stocks:

Q)(bill_gant) Is there a way to find out what stocks are in a particular Industry Group so they can be screened?

A)(Hammerhead_Jake) In the Watchlist dropdown window, about 1/5 of the way down, you will see a bunch of red "W"'s within yellow squares. These contain the stocks in Worden's Industry Group Averages. They are comprised of representative stocks for each respective Industry Group. Below these, you will see a list of blue "M"'s within white squares. These lists contain all of the stocks in each respective heading and are, of course, more thorough.

Backing Up:

Q)(donniepa98) Maybe this has been discussed before, but wanted to know how to save all data on the program such as formulae and watchlists in case of computer crash.

A)Hammerhead_Jake) In TC2000, in upper left corner, click File, then Backup/Restore. Backup to your hard drive in case of non-catastrophic crash (ease of access) and to a floppy in case of hard drive failure.

Zero’s in all fields:

Q)(Hammerhead_Jake) Can anyone help? I get nothing but zeros in all fields in "Today's Prices" and nothing but zeros in The "closing price" field in "Watchlist Tracking".

A)(cpratsch) I am, of course, unaware of your computer setups, but I get the 0s in Daily Price Change when 1) I did not update the PCFs (rarely so), and 2) on days after a long weekend (somehow the calendar plays a role here): Normal is Friday to Monday, stuttering comes with Thursday to Monday or Friday to Tuesday.

Overflow 6 & automation error:

Q)(QUIKTDR) Thank you for your response. Now after goining through every PCF, deleting some adding the.001 + to others I am now getting an OVERFLOW'6' error as well as the automation one.I have now spent the better part of the day trying to correct this any ideas????

A)(nphillips123) I was also getting an overflow error. When I went into my PCFs I realized that TC2000 stops calculating at the offending PCF. You can look at the dates beside the PCF. The first PCF that has yesterday's date rather than today's date is the one with the error. I copied the PCF to a notepad & than deleted the PCF & reran the calculate formulas. I had to do this twice (2 bad PFCs), but then the calculations were completed successfully.

Watchlist to update:

Q)(dasunn) After I download, my PCF update is set to automatic and it runs against all 9000+ charts. Is there a way to run the PCF update on something less than the full data base? My PCF update takes about 20 minutes for these 9000+ charts.

A)(ejr39) Certainly, at the bottom of the Personal Criteria Formulas window is the "Calculate For" window; click the down arrow on the right side of "Calculate For" window (left of the Edit and Update All Criteria buttons). From the pop-up list, select the WatchList to update.

Run-Time Error 11, division by zero error, and Run-Time error 440:

Q)(QUIKTDR) After downloading and updating criteria I received following error messages: Run-Time Error '11'

division by zero and Run-Time Error '440' automation error. How do I know which PCF is giving me this error message & will automation error correct itself when I find which PCF is in error?

A)(ejr39) The automation error is self-correcting. As for the 'dreaded divide by zero error' - check all the PCFs that you've 'written' which contained a divide sign (/). Be sure that a .001 + follows the divide sign i.e. Trending / Consolidating PCF (corrects 'divide by zero' error)(MAXH25 - MINL25) / (.001 + (AVGH25 - AVGL25) * 25) * 100

Mid line on graphs:

Q)(seller9) I have a dumb question. How do you get the mid line on your graphs? I only have 2 lines, no center line. I suppose I could look in the help but quicker to ask.

A)(cpratsch) a) there is no such thing as a dumb question related to TA and TC2000 (sometimes there are dumb answers) b)some indicators have middle lines. The middle lines stay on white even if you select these indicators in black so that they do not show against a black background c) Select a long TSV (18 or so), select black for TSV, and the white middle line should stay in this window.

A)(dtrog) You can also get lines by selecting Not Visible. middle - tsv 70/30 - rsi 80/20 - stochastic

TC2000 on 2 machines:

Q)(stock_chartist) Just got myself a new, faster, portable, PC. I'm sure this has been posted before but can anyone reference me to previous messages that may have addressed the process and the challenges of migrating the whole TC2K architecture off a Windows95 platform onto another Windows NT platform. In other words, how do I do this? Help, please!

A)(happyblacksmith) Migrating is reasonably easy but you can also maintain the program on two machines but only run one at a time. I switch between my desktop and my portable often. Here is how:

1st: do a backup from within TC2000. The backup will fit on a floppy. Go to the "File" menu and do the "Backup/Restore". Be sure to set the path so that the file goes where you want it to go. Also make sure that all the boxes are checked in the backup window.

2nd: Do a complete install of the program from the CD onto the new machine.

3rd: boot TC2000 on the new machine and then do a "restore" from the file menu. That will make all of the tab settings, etc. the same as on your #1 machine.

4th: Call worden at 1-800-776-4940 and ask them to change your subscription to the new machine. They will tell you that will take about 30 minutes for them to reset their system.

5th: Wait the designated time and then update the new machine in the standard manner. Have your CD in it's drive when you do this. Also be sure that the two boxes (in the "update" window)are checked so that all of the values are updated. It will take longer then average this first time just as it did when you first signed on originally. If you get an error message saying you can only run the program on one machine at a time, just wait a few minutes and try it again. If you have waited more then the designated time and it still won't work, call worden again and tell them "Please reset their system". They usually do it in 20 minutes or so.

6th: After the update is done, you should be able to run the program on the new machine only.

Worden will let you call in and switch machines 4 times a month with no charge. More then 4 will cost you.

Q)(Ken45140) What is the name of the Watchlist file? and which subdirectory is it in? I just used LapLink to copy the entire TC2000 directory tree to the laptop (after installing the CD on the laptop). All updated information was transferred to the laptop **except** my watchlists. There were three canned watchlists on the laptop, all my Easy Scans and PCFs...but no WatchLists. I tried to update the laptop over the Internet but got interrupted with a message that said only 1 machine key per account...or words something like that. Does anybody update a laptop and a desk top separately and with only one account?

A)(acarballo) This is what you have to do to make it work.

1) install the TC2000 in the new computer.

2) Run the TC2000 and exit. It will probably ask you to register. Enter the information (the machine key is the same one from the old PC.

3) Copy the entire TC2000 directory from the old to the new PC.

4) Run the program named "TC2000RegInfo.exe" in the new computer. You'll find it in the TC2000 directory. Now do this,

a) Change the TC2000's path using the 'Advance Options" menu item.

b) Change the CD drive using the 'Advance Options" menu item.

Run TC2000 and everything should be there. This is how I installed the program at the office that runs using data that I restored from a tape (data from my home PC.) When restoring the data, use the 'User' directory ONLY. Otherwise, you'll to reset the PATH and CD drive (see step 4.)

A)(babynuke) What you need to do to save all you settings is to copy the users folder in TC2000. The problem here is that that prices.cus is very large, on my system it is 30mb, you need a zip drive etc. to copy all of the user file. I do this daily, I done load TC2000 to my desk to and update it takes 8 min. (266 98mem 13gig HD) then copy the user file to my lap top, total time 13-15 min. It took 45-60 min on my laptop.

Worden notes update:

Q)(signals_99) When I run a mid day or 3PM download looking for end of day ideas based on TC2000 I do not get the Worden Note posts as of that hour. Typically I have to run an after the close download then the earlier intraday notes appear along with the more common 4PM notes. Is this what other club members experience? Makes no difference if I download via internet or 800#

A)(mizfriz_98) Yes, I have the same experience. My understanding is that they don't write alot of the notes until the market has closed and they see what has happened that day. I usually wait an hour or two after the market closes to get the final figures and notes from the day.

Reinstalling TC2000:

Q)(jcmorrill) I killed TC2000 when I installed the latest CD, build 056-0708. I haven’t heard from worden tech support yet, I emailed them. I tried uninstalling then reinstalling the prev CD (build 037-0330) and it doesn’t work either. Looks bad for TC2000.

A)(cpratsch) WORDEN recommended to me to completely delete the "older" TC2000 system from my computer and install the new CD-ROM disk. I did, and it worked. I lost all my tab settings, watch lists, and PCFs in the process, but only because I did not follow WORDEN's recommendation to back these up and save them. So, presumably this can be done too.

A)(page38801)

That was a problem that we were experiencing with the program. We have since corrected it. Here are the steps that you will need to take in order to correct it:

1. Close down any open programs, including the TC2000 program as well.

3. Activate your internet connection, and then minimize it so it is on your task bar.

2. Open up Windows Explorer (One method is to click on Start, then Run. In the open section you would type in explorer.)

3. On the right hand side, double-click on the file folder labeled Program Files.

4. On the right hand side, double-click on the file folder labeled Tc2000.

5. Now on the right hand side, there will be a file component labeled TC2000VersionUpgrade.exe. Double click on that file component.

6. Now press the upgrade button. This will run through a process of logging in, transferring, then logging out, and updating.

7. Press the OK button, when it tells you that it has been updated.

Then close down the Explorer window, and open Telechart 2000. You will need to update for new information to complete the fix. If by chance, the upgrade dialog tells you that you are running the most current version, please you these instructions first:

The latest version is 4.2.0056. If it does not allow you to download the latest version, you will need to set your update number back. Here are the steps to do that:

1. Close all open programs.

2. Open up Windows Explorer.

3. Click on Program Files, and then TC2000 (both of these should be on the right hand side)

4. Double-click on TC2000RegInfo.exe

5. In alphabetical order underneath subject, you are looking for

Settings/NextUpdate. Double click on it when you find it.

6. Lower that number by 20.

7. Close down any open windows, and reboot the machine. After that, try to run the version upgrade again. This should correct the problem of the missing cross hairs.

Copy CD to Hard Drive:

Q)(DanielExtreme) Seller9--Could you walk me through this process. The Help files were not clear enough for me to follow on this procedure. TIA. Myron

A)(seller9) Be happy to:

1) Go to "Watchlist" selection arrow and open up the watch list "All Items In System".

2) Go to the Watch list pull down form the menu and pull it down.

3) Select "Copy to other List" from that menu.

4) Select "All Symbols" from the pop out menu.

5) From the list that appears select "Hard Drive Charts".

6) Click OK.

Everything on the CD will be copied to the hard drive. Will take a while and will take about 400-500 megs of space on the hard drive. The only thing you have to remember is when you update to a new CD you have to go into your hard drive and delete all the files in the HCache directory and then repeat the above procedure with the new CD. That directory is located Tc2000/User/Data/HCache. Don't delete the directory HCache, just everything in it.

Brackets:

Q)(howie99) I noticed alot of use of Brackets, why are they used? Below is one of my PCF's and it works fine, why would I need to add brackets? C1 < AVGC10.1 AND C1 >= AVGC20.1 AND AVGC10 > AVGC20 AND L >= L1 AND AVGC5 > AVGC10 AND C >= C1 AND AVGV10.1 >= 500 I used TC-2000 to make this PCF and in didn't add any brackets. Thanks

A)(seller9) Your PCF is fine without brackets. They are used the same way they are in any math equation. They are used to control the order in which calculations are done. Some times they get over done, but its better to be safe. In the PCF you show the AND is separating the operations in your equation without the need for the brackets. In a PCF like 6+6/2 you would get the answer 9. But with brackets (6+6)/2 you would get 6. So it depends on what you are trying to do and in what order you want the equation to be calulated. Whats inside the brackets gets done first.

Bar Chart Color:

Q)(Bob77713) Would someone please tell me how to change the color of the bar charts? I changed the background of the screen to white, but the bar charts are light green and hard to read.

A)(yhfeb57) Click the "I" on the tool bar above the chart area. You'll see the price bars and indicators for the various windows you've selected. Here you'll see the choices available for bar colors etc.

Memory:

Q)(daviddeb) After my download this morning, and starting the update, I received a message "not enough memory, quitting" which it promptly did, returned to the main screen with no update. Anyone seen this before?

A)(cpratsch) TC2000 keeps all updated PCF data and all quantitative data in memory so that on sorting or Easyscan scanning these data are available "in seconds."

Needs plenty of RAM. Thus,

1) Do not have any other program open when working TC2000, and/or

2) increase the RAMs. I now run 96MBRAM and never had this message after I bought 64 more. Cheap too in relation to stock investments.

Value/Rank buttons:

Q)(Sputnick55) I was playing around with the value / rank buttons that you can press (in easy scan). I put a pcf (bop) in and put the slider to 95% I got 101 stocks back with the value button, pressed the rank button got 101 stocks back. Did this with several different pcfs' same result. (yes everything was updated)

Does this value/rank button do anything?

Am I missing something?

Have you noticed this?

Am I going insaine ?

Also I discovered that if you download the new data and DONT UPDATE the pcf's. Some stocks that you had in your

easy scans will be gone!! I dont know where they go but.. make sure you make a watchlist BEFORE you download the

new data!

A)(jdh1344) Explanation: I'll use Volume 1-day-H

Value = The numerical value for a particular stock for example 50,000 shares

Rank = Where that particular stock ranked in relation to all other stocks being considered that day for example 30th

percentile

On any given day a stock will have a value and a rank. Our examples 50,000 and 30 The next day a stock with 50,000 shares may only be ranked in 25th percentile (depends on how all others traded.) So it is important to know what you want to scan for: value or (rank compared to all others)

Here is the pit fall of all this:

You set the slider for a value of 50,000 and (rank for that day was 30 and you have the rank button on by mistake), no

problem that day but the next day you will think you have scanned for 50,000 but it will be 40,000 or 60,000 or some

other number depending on what 30th percentile for that next day might be.

Hope this helps understanding and how important this really is.

Users Guide:

Q)(PierRodelon) If the brain could only hold the stuff that long. I appreciate your response--have been reading at clearstation for months and have the other sites marked. Going to try to get a toehold this weekend--just the slightest sense of not being totally confused. I thought the TC2000 Users Guide came printed with mine--or is there a more thorough users guide on the CD?

A)(ejr39) > the TC2000 Users Guide came printed with mine < is titled "Introductory User's Guide". For the 94+ page online User's Guide: from the TC2000 menu bar, select <Help>The Help dropdown menu includes: <TeleChart 2000 Help Topics> <User Guide>The TC2000.com User Guide requires Acrobat Reader which is included on the Worden Bros CD.

GPF Error:

Q)(onetrainfool) I'm getting that GPF message when I try to open tc2000 this afternoon. My system froze instead of going into suspension shortly before I started getting the GPF message. Since nobody else has posted having this problem, it's probably a windows problem, not tc2000's problem. But if anyone has a clue how to fix it, i'd sure appreciate it. I'll call tc2000 now.

A)(ski1951) When using tc2000 program freeze's-- for solution go to--tc2000.com/support/support.htm---and follow directions for graphic accellerator!

CD-ROM drive letter change:

Q)(wretsub) I have installed an additional hard drive and now my cd-rom letter is now F: not d:Can someone tell me how I can tell TC2000 that my TC2000 drive is in a different drive. I am getting a message from TC2000 that it can not find the history cd.

A)(ejr39) From the Start Menu select. Find.Select Files and Folders. In the Files and Folders: Named window, type: "TC2000RegInfo" In the upper left corner of the TC2000RegInfo window, click Advanced Options. From the Advanced Options dropdown menu, select Change CD Path. Select the drive letter corresponding to your new cd-rom. Click OK.

Scan by Chart Symbol:

Q)(onnaleta) I would like to find stocks that have announced a stock split that has not yet happened. Someone has said that buying just after the split and holding for a year gives a pretty good yeild.

A)(babynuke) Under Watchlist choose all stocks. Under Sort choose Split Date. This will give you all stocks in Worden's database with future as well as past splits. You may also want to look at : http://www.e-anlytics.com/splitd.htm.

Fixed Date in Formula:

Q)(chartscanner) Is it possible to place a fixed date in a formula?

A)(joebhernandez) Yes. I was looking at this the other day, look at the help section under PCF's > Days Ago.. Here's a cut and paste...You can also enter a specific date instead of the number of days ago. Just enter the date between single quotes where the "Days Ago" parameter would normally be in the formula. For example if you wanted to calculate all stocks that made a new high on the last trading day of the year, you could enter the formula:

C’12/31/97’ > MAXC250.1

This will return true for all stocks that made a new one-year high on December 31, 1997. (In this case December 31st was the last trading day of the year, however this may not always be the case due to which day of the week it falls on.)

Acrobat Reader and TC2000.com manual:
